Tai Chi Chuan is an “Internal” martial art system of exercise and meditation discovered and developed in China. A series of uninterrupted “shadow boxing” movements is performed, usually slowly, in harmony with the breath, encouraging a quiet mind and a relaxed agile body .
The chief instructor, Cary Outis, has taught Internal Martial Arts for over twenty years, and studied them for thirty one. The first twenty one were with his master, Rose Li. Having found it unfathomable for a few years, he is keen to make it fathomable to newcomers, without trivialising one of the world's most remarkable arts.
Tai Chi is suitable for women and men of all ages and physical conditions, and is introduced slowly to ensure that, with regular practice, nobody gets left behind in the process. Tai Chi skill and understanding grow over time, and careful study is invariably rewarded. Our classes last for one hour, and run in terms of twelve or so weeks. They are open to all.
The classes at Friends Meeting House have now been going for 12 years. We're in a large well cared-for space on the first floor, on the corner of Park Street, next to ADC theatre. We look forward to hearing from you, whether it's to enquire about classes, or to make contact as another martial art practitioner.
If you would like to discuss other matters, please feel free to ring the principal tutor, Cary Outis, on 01353 676322. You are also very welcome to email Cary at carytaichi@gmail.com.
Class fee is £5.00 per 45 minute session (prepaid rate, balance after first 3 weeks). Concessions available.
Classes may also be available in Hsing I and Ba Gua for experienced practitioners.
